Prayer Ministry

The goal of prayer ministry at our church is to help spread and sustain a church-wide prayer movement by ministering God’s Word in ways that inspire and ignite our church body to become a house or prayer. We believe that prayer is not a ministry, but the ministry of our church.

People are used to thinking about prayer as a means of getting their personal needs met. However, we should understand prayer as a means to praise and adore God, to know Him, to come into His presence and be changed by Him. We need to learn how to pray, repent and petition God as a people.

Are you called to Prayer Ministry?

Identifying those with a ministry of prayer: See the description below. If you fit the description, please consider joining our prayer team. Some who fit the description will be people who are already on the front line leading ministries, Bible studies, etc. These people need to be prayed for, not be enlisted into yet one more thing. We are looking for the people who may be hidden, who enjoy behind-the-scenes ministry, who want to partner with those on the front line but don't know how to - or no one has ever asked. We want to equip and encourage them. Intercessor types know others like them. They will draw in more. We don't need to orchestrate how they are to pray - the Spirit will do that - we will just let them know who specifically to pray for and the vision God has given our pastors.

Earmarks of one called to a ministry of intercession may include:

  • Love to pray...praying for extended periods of time is a joy and delight.
  • Content to be in ministry behind-the-scenes.
  • Desire to grow in praying and to learn more about prayer.
  • Expect God to hear his/her prayer and to answer according to His wisdom.
  • See answers to prayer daily, or at least regularly.
  • Receive regular insight and scripture that informs their praying.
  • Keep tenaciously a personal confidence of another.
  • Place pastors and/or ministries as a high priority in their total prayer life.
  • Sought after by others for prayer or have received a gifting in prayer.
  • Enjoy intimacy with the Lord in their daily walk with Him.
  • Has often a compassion/mercy gifting.
  • Feel comfortable praying alone, with others, in different environments, at various times of the day.

If God is calling you to prayer ministry, please consider getting involved in the following ways.

Prayer Shield on Sunday Mornings

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is

greater than the One who is in the world. I John 4:4 (NIV)

The enemy knows where our church leaders and church body are vulnerable,

and he strikes at their weakest points. But the greater power is on our side.

Through intercessory prayer we can reinforce our church leaders and church

body with God's strength and protection.

We need people to pray over our Sunday morning church services.

If you feel God is calling you to be a prayer warrior and pray a shield of protection

over our Sunday morning services, please contact Maile Peachey at

mpeachey@adelphia.net.

24-7 Prayer Circle

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is

greater than the One who is in the world. I John 4:4 (NIV)

A 24-7 Prayer Circle is a schedule that breaks up the whole week into one-hour

segments. Individuals sign up for a one-hour time slot and commit to praying

through this hour every week. When the schedule is filled with pray-ers, we will

have someone praying 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How do I pray?

You should pray as the Holy Spirit leads. Our church body feels the need to

really pray about the Church's unity, its holiness; its outreach and effectiveness

in our community. God's priority, we believe, is His Church: His Bride being

holy and set apart for Himself. You can also pray for our church leaders and the

church’s various ministries.

We are in the process of updating our church’s 24-7 Prayer Circle. If you feel

that God is leading you to pray a shield of protection over our church, please

consider committing one hour of time to prayer each week.

Prayer Chain

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:13-16 (NIV)

If you would like to receive and pray for the requests of other members of our church family or if you would like to place a personal prayer request on the Prayer Chain, please contact the church office at 237-7991. To place a request on the Prayer Chain after 5 p.m. or on weekends, please contact Robin Schuh at (814 689-3380).

Prayer Meeting

If you would like to pray during the week with members of our church family, a weekly prayer meeting is held at the church on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.

Intercessory Prayer for Our Missionaries

Organized prayer for our missionaries takes place at the H2O-His to Own monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Satan has held uncontested sway for centuries in many countries that we think of as foreign mission fields. For this reason, the people of these countries are blinded, and God’s truth does not penetrate easily. We need to pray regularly and specifically for our missionaries. Photos of our missionaries can be found on the Missions bulletin board located in the hallway outside of the church office. You can use the guide below to pray for our missionaries.

Day 1: Pray for the Missionary’s Own Relationship with God

Day 2: Pray for the Missionary’s Physical and Emotional Health

Day 3: Pray for the Missionary’s Family

Day 4: Pray for the Missionary’s Ability to Communicate in a Foreign Language

Day 5: Pray for the Missionary’s Ministry

Day 6: Pray for the Relationship with Fellow Workers

Day 7: Pray for the Missionary’s Country of Service
